Will to Live?
by Rickard Feiff
He took
a jumping start out of the trench and started to run over the deadly
field of fire towards the enemy trenches. The Legion had dug in here
several months ago and they had been fighting them ever since, but now
he had been given the asignment to make a "delivery" that may turn the
tide of war on this asteroid for all future. His strong legs moved him
with speed that surprised even his comrades that watched him run from
their safe positions in the trench. he didn't care. He just ran. He was
carrying the "package" under his right arm. It was a bio-chemical bomb
based on the same principle as Capitols Agent Red-grenades. This bomb
would melt all legionaries within range like butter in a oven. It would
create a hole in their defence. he didn't care, he just ran. A bullet
hit him in his leg but his heavy armor saved him from getting damaged.
The momentum of the bullet was almost enough to knock him prone. But it
didn't. He kept running. The bullets kept coming. from both directions.
His comrades was giving covering fire now. He was hit in the head by a
bullet. Knocked down. He waited a while and then tried to get up. Then
he tried to run. Faster. He could see the enemy defence lines clearly
now. they were defending a citadel that landed on this asteroid half a
year ago but the landing was unstable and the citadel was damaged and
they lost many of their troops. His corp had tried to wipe them from the
surface ever since. They tried to defend they damaged citadel while
trying to repair it. He didn't care, he just kept running. He could
see the legionaries and the necromutants now. They were firing at him.
He got hit several times. His armor saved him from destruction time
after time. He fell several times. He didn't care. Suddenly he was
there, jumping into the enemy trench with the bomb. He pushed the
detonation button when he hit the ground and everything became a cloud
of red gas. He stood among the melting legionaries and for the first
time since he started running he actually thou ght about his actions,
his long run and the thought was: Finally SQ3-76941,
"John", the Attila unit that had been asigned the duty to deliver the
"package" could return home. He didn't care.
