Sanjuro
by Timothy J. Reiff
March 5th, 1998
It is a hard lesson that politics can sometimes come between a Lord and his honor. Were the corruption the work of the Dark Legion, he could have fought it.
A cultist group had set up a cell in a Mishiman industrial township. The Brotherhood was attempting to infiltrate it and asked the Lord for a token raid to solidify their position. The in addition to the requested Samurai, the Lord sent a Demon Hunter and Deathbringer backed by a host of Combat and Suicide Warheads with orders to eradicate everyone and erase this embarrassment to Mishima purity.
Brotherhood agents wanted an explanation, they got a scapegoat - the sole human survivor.
Stripped of his rank and honor, he was privately praised. Under pressure from the Brotherhood, the Lord had to publicly forbid Seppaku - at least until the Inquisitors could interrogate him properly. His
clandestine exodus from his Mercurian home was not without substantial assistance.
Taking the anonymous name of a mythic hero, Sanjuro has been passed from one place to another as a freelancer for hire. His lack of zeal in pursuing employment is perceived as laziness, not atypical among the Ronin that are condemned to such a life without honor or corporate loyalty. Indeed, extended contact with these dregs has given him a unique perspective on inter-corporation warfare.

Special Rules
- Sanjuro is immune to Panic and Rout.
- Sanjuro has Close Combat training and the Kenjitsu Special ability.
- Sanjuro still considers himself to be a Demon Hunter and may not be part of any force in which a brotherhood model - or a true Demon Hunter is present.
- Lack of interaction with the clan masters left Sanjuro with the ability to muster only 2 Ki Powers (roll randomly just before deployment).
- Sanjuro is a master of persuasion. When not hidden, he will call out to enemy corporate units (including cartel) identifying himself as a sympathetic freelancer. Any corporate model wishing to attack him must roll under it’s leadership to see through his ruse.
- Once per turn Sanjuro may Give Orders to any corporate unit - triggering an immediate LD check. Enemy units failing the check will be activated by the Mishima player as if they just received orders from one of their own heroes to move out or retreat - but they cannot be made to attack their own forces. As a Ronin with a deceitful reputation, his loyalty is always suspect and Friendly Mishima forces must make their LD check to follow his orders.
- Sanjuro is actively being hunted by the Brotherhood. Any Brotherhood model performing a successful Spot check on Sanjuro will expose his disguise and negate the two powers above. Additionally, all Brotherhood individuals must then spend at least one of their actions attempting to close upon Sanjuro - with intent on his destruction and the recovery of his stolen weapons.
Equipment
As a Ronin, Sanjuro is prohibited from the honor of wielding a Demon Fang or even Ceremonial Blades - so he improvised. Disguised to look as an ordinary punisher combo, he carries the Deathdealer sword and the Avalanche handgun from the Assassin that tried to take his head. He also carries an ordinary Plasma carbine that he has learned to use one handed.
Much like true Freelancers, his armor is now a patchwork of assorted corporate designs and looks less sturdy than it is. As added protection, he has two Mystic Talismans concealed beneath his shabby cloak. These Talismans and his weapons are already figured into Sanjuro’s cost.
Structure
Sanjuro is purchased as an Individual Model and a Personality.
